Virat Kohli has added an ICC T20 World Cup title to his resume, which already includes the ODI World Cup, Champions Trophy, and the U19 World Cup. The match-winning half-century against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2023 was the answer to his critics’ persistent questions about his place in India’s T20 squad. A fighting total of 176 was achieved by Rohit Sharma’s men after his gritty 59-ball 76.
One of the most decorated players in cricket history, Kohli secured the T20 World Cup title for the first time in his career, completing a unique quadruple of ICC trophies – a feat even the great Dhoni couldn’t achieve.
Despite capturing all three ICC white-ball trophies (ODI World Cup, Twenty20 World Cup, and the Champions Trophy), Dhoni failed to capture the U19 World Cup crown.
By adding the T20 World Cup trophy to his collection, Kohli has won all four white-ball ICC titles available to a player in their career, an accomplishment matched only by Yuvraj Singh.
Yuvraj won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2002 (India were joint-winners with Sri Lanka) along with the U19 World Cup in 2000, T20 World Cup in 2007 and ODI World Cup in 2011. The Champions Trophy was shared by Yuvraj, not Kohli.
The Test Championship is the only award missing from Kohli’s resume. India fell short in both ICC Test Championship finals, despite Kohli’s presence. In the traditional whites of Team India, the talismanic batsman hopes to complete his cricketing journey.
