Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV: The new SUV-coupe Basalt from Citroen India has finally been launched in India following multiple teases and design concepts. The car will be equipped with advanced safety features along with 6 airbags.
Citroen will produce it in India itself. Citroen Basalt is the third car to come under the C-Cube program, which has already launched Citroen C3 and C3 Aircross.
India and South America are among the markets specifically targeted by this program. It could cost as little as Rs 8 lakh.
This car, popularly known as Citroen C3X, can be launched in the Indian market this month. Its booking will start soon. It will thereafter be introduced to the South American market. The pricing of a Citroen can begin around Rs.8 lakh
In the segment, it will compete with Tata’s upcoming coupe SUV Curve, but in the price segment, the car will also compete with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Tiguan, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyrider, Skoda Kushak and Honda Elevate.
Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV: Exterior
The new coupe SUV has been developed on the CMP platform, on which the company’s C3 hatchback and C3 Aircross SUV are based. The C3 and C3 Aircross served as inspiration for the car’s design. Its front has a chrome finish split grille and split headlamp setup. Here projector headlamps will be available instead of halogen units. The air vent’s square design components at the bottom are derived from the Aircross.
Talking about the side profile, here there is a sloping roofline, square wheel arch, side body cladding and dual-tone alloy wheels. This makes the car look quite sporty. To give the SUV a coupe style, the rear profile has been given a very high position and the boot lid has been positioned slightly above the bonnet. Along with the silver skid plate and wraparound LED taillamps, it also features a high bumper.
The car will get 5 single tone and 2 dual tone color options. These include Polar White, Steel Gray, Platinum Gray, Cosmo Blue, Garnet Red, Polar White + Pearl Nera Black and Garnet Blue + Pearl Nera Black.
Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV: Interior Design and Features
The cabin of the Basalt resembles the C3 Aircross and even its dashboard is similar. It has dual digital displays and similar AC vents. The company has given white leatherette upholstery in the car. The rear seat of the Basalt can be slid up to 87mm, which will provide better under thigh support.
The Basalt SUV Coupe has a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital driver display like the C3 Aircross. Apart from this, features like automatic climate control, cruise control, push button start/stop, keyless entry and wireless phone charging have also been provided.
For safety, it has safety features like 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), rear parking camera and tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV: Performance
For performance, Citroen Basalt will be available with two engine options.It will have a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine that comes in the C3 hatchback and C3 Aircross compact SUV, which generates 110hp of power and 205Nm of torque. The engine can be offered with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
At the same time, the second 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine will be available, which generates 82hp of power and 115Nm of torque. For transmission, it has been tuned with a 5-speed manual gearbox. With this engine, the car will get 18 mpg, whereas the turbo engine will get 19.5 mpg with a 6-speed manual and 18.7 mpg with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
