Noted film editor Nishadh Yusuf was found dead in an apartment in Kochi, reported PTI citing police on Wednesday. He was found lifeless inside his apartment at around 2 am in Panampilly Nagar. The prima facie investigation hints at Yusuf’s death to be a case of suicide.
Further details in the case are awaited. Yusuf was a noted editor who received applause for his work in the Kerala film industry. Upcoming projects like Bazooka, starring actor Mammootty, and the Tamil film ‘Kanguva’ featuring Suriya, are some of his last film projects. Kanguva movie was announced by Suriya last year. The movie is set to be released on November 14 and also features Bollywood actor Bobby Deol and Disha Patani in prominent roles.
Yusuf also won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Editor in 2022. Other works of Nishadh Yusuf include ‘Thallumaala’, ‘Chaaver’, ‘Unda’, ‘Saudi Vellakka’, ‘One’, ‘Operation Java’, ‘Bazooka’, and ‘Kanguva’. He won the Best Editor State Award for his work on ‘Thallumaala’.
FEFKA confirms Nishad Yusuf’s death
Nishad Yusuf’s death was initially confirmed by the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) Directors’ Union on the social media platform Facebook. The social media handle of the union shared Yusuf’s photo while informing about the unexpected demise of the editor.
“The unexpected demise of Nishadh Yusuf, film editor, who played a major role in determining the contemporary future of the changing Malayalam cinema, is not something the film world will be able to quickly accept. Condolences from FEFKA Directors’ Union,” read the Facebook post. Nishad Yusuf was a native of Kerala’s Haripad in the Alappuzha district and is now survived by his kids, a son and a daughter, and his wife.
Several industry professionals gave their condolences over the untimely demise of the film editor. In a post on X, RJ Balaji wrote a heartfelt note offering condolences to Nishad’s family.
