The Mumbai Police received a threat message against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday via WhatsApp. The text was sent to the traffic police helpline and mentioned two ISI agents and a plot to carry out a bomb blast to target Modi. The development comes less than two weeks after the Mumbai Police received an anonymous call threatening to assassinate the senior politician.
The number was traced to Ajmer in Rajasthan and efforts are underway to nab the miscreant. Investigators suspect that the sender is a mentally disturbed person or was under the influence of alcohol. A First Information Report has also been filed under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The city police had also received a similar threat last week from a Mumbai-based caller. The police subsequently detained a 34-year-old woman who had made the call out of “some frustration towards the administration system”. Reports quoting the police said the caller had referenced a plot to kill Modi and claimed that a weapon had been readied for the plan.
The Mumbai Police has received many hoax threat messages in the past — including two separate messages this week threatening to kill actor Salman Khan.
“If Salman Khan wants to stay alive, he should go to a temple (Bishnoi community temple in Rajasthan) and apologise to the community or pay ₹5 crore. If he does not do the same, we will eliminate him. The Bishnoi gang is still active,” the latest missive to the police warned on Friday.
A man was also detained on Wednesday after he entered the set of the actor’s latest film and threatened his bodyguard using the name of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Officials however said that a preliminary probe indicated the accused and the bodyguard knew each other and had some dispute.
