In a recent incident highlighting marital discord, a woman from Uttar Pradesh’s Agra reached the police station after her husband allegedly failed to purchase a saree for her, sparking a heated argument between the couple. The matter escalated to the point where she lodged a complaint against him. Authorities were taken aback by the unusual nature of the complaint and subsequently referred the case to a family counselling centre.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2022, had been facing frequent disagreements over trivial issues since their marriage. The wife’s desire for a saree became a point of contention, leading to a significant rift between them. At the family counselling centre, the wife, recounting events since their 2022 marriage, alleged that her husband had failed to buy her a new saree and had been physically abusive towards her. In response, the husband accused his wife of engaging in late-night phone calls.

The intervention of counsellors at proved crucial in reconciling the couple, who ultimately resolved their differences amicably. After thorough discussion and mediation, a resolution was reached on the condition that the husband fulfill his wife’s request to procure the desired saree. Accepting her condition, the husband promptly obtained the saree, leading to a reconciliation. Subsequently, he escorted his wife back to their home, marking a positive conclusion to the dispute.

Dr Satish Sikarwar, a counsellor at the family counseling centre, highlighted the diverse range of cases regularly handled at the facility. He emphasised the centre’s role in resolving such disputes and fostering understanding within families, underscoring the importance of effective communication and mediation in maintaining marital harmony.
